Rediscover Mono Lake
Posted: 11/2008
Mono Lake, once imperiled by the excessive diversions of water to Los Angeles, celebrates 10 years of being saved this year.It was a simple vote that took place on September 28, 1994, not unlike hundreds of votes that occur in the state’s capitol every day. But the unanimous revision of the LA’s water rights that resulted was deeply meaningful— transforming Mono Lake from a symbol of environmental destruction into a shining example of how both people and nature can have the water they need.
California Drought Continues
Posted: 10/2008

“Our water supply is dangerously low due to record dry conditions and environmental factors,” said Metropolitan Board Chairman Timothy F. Brick. “We have entered a new and worrisome water era, where the problems of below-normal rain and snowfall are made much worse by water supply restrictions due to deteriorating environmental conditions. It is time to make every drop count.”
Massive cuts in Water Supply Deliveries from the Bay Delta
Posted: 8/2007
U. S. District Court Judge Oliver W. Wanger announced a series of severe restrictions on the operations of the massive pumps that supply water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta to 25 million Californians (about two-thirds of all Californians), including 3 million residents of San Diego County, to protect threatened fish in the Bay-Delta.For San Diego County, supplies from the Bay-Delta in recent years have provided more than one-third of all water used in the county. A significant reduction in supplies from the State Water Project could have serious impacts in San Diego County.
“We are clearly facing a serious water crisis throughout California,” said Fern Steiner, chair of the San Diego County Water Authority’s board of directors.
WATER SAVING TIPS
Verify that your home is leak free.
Many homes have hidden water leaks. Read your water meter before and after a two-hour period when no water is being used. If the meter does not read exactly the same, there is a leak.
